The weather has finally turned cold and many of us will be pulling our old winter coat out of the wardrobe. Last year, I found my trusted camel overcoat was covered in small holes…it had been eaten by the moths. If you have found yourself in the same situation unfortunately there is nothing to be done but discard your old coat and make sure you give the wardrobe a good clean. This will involve washing all the existing clothes (or putting them in the freezer for a few days to kill any moth eggs), hoovering the wardrobe then washing it down with soap and water. After this I recommend adding a few drops of lavender oil to a damp cloth and wiping the inside of the wardrobe all over.
Luckily moths hate the smell of lavender so by using lavender bags or linen spray you can greatly reduce the chance of having another moth attack. Alternatively if you wash your clothes with a few drops of lavender oil, this will leave a very faint aroma which will ward off any future insect friends. Another great tip is to wash your sheets with lavender oil… not only will your bed smell divine but it will help you drift off into a deep ‘moth free’ sleep!
